The course was started to fill the gaps of the number of mental health professionals in the country. So this course has a wide scope in the coming years of field of Mental health. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is deemed University based on Mumbai and was established in 1936. Mental Health Action Trust (MHAT) was established in 2008.

MHAT is a registered charitable trust based in Kerala. With the vision to take forward our creativity, an initiative to start MHAT’s very own academics emerges. MHAT provide free community psychiatry services to BPL families mainly on three districts including Wayanadu, Calicut and Malappuram  in Kerala. MHAT work in 34 clinics in these districts.

2014-2016 Admissions of Master of Arts in Social Work in Mental Heath and M.A Applied Psychology with specialization in Clinical Psychology courses has been started. Mental Health Action Trust in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences conduct these courses. These courses were started in 2012  in MHAT and now have two batches. These are post graduate program and any person with a graduation  can apply for this course. The center will admit 20 students for the current year. The academic session will start at June 10, 2014.

 For Master of Arts in Social Work in Mental Heath, Students from any bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years can apply this course. Those who attend their final year bachelor's degree examination can also apply for this course.

For M.A Applied Psychology with specialization in Clinical Psychology, Students from BA psychology or BA general with three papers in psychology can only apply.


The mark of written test in 70 and for personal interview, the mark will be 30 with a total of 100. The written test may have questions related to current environment of India, reports of different commissions and other questions related to social work field.

The students need to bring one passport size photograph, income certificate, bonafide certificate. The fee for the application is 1000 rupees.
